No!

Do I need to be in good physical shape to do the OPPS courses?

For the Self-Defense 1.0, you do not have to be an athlete, or in great physical shape. Our courses cater to the everyday person.

However, physical ability, stamina and a further range of motion are required for the combative courses such as Low Light training, Pistol and Carbine 2, Close Protection Officer, Close Quarter Combat level 2 Armed & Un-Armed.

—————

Do I need to have a background in martial arts or a fighting style?

No. What you learn in this course is a game changer in the world of self-defense.

If you participate in the Pistol and Carbine 2, Close Protection Officer, Close Quarter Combat level 2 Armed & Un-Armed, you will need to have taken the OPPS SELF DEFENSE 1.0 and Pistol and Carbine Fundamentals.

DO YOU HAVE age RESTRICTIONS ON these courses?

We do not create false expectations. We understand and respect body mechanics, body weight and mindset restrictions and limitations therefore we do not train under 13’s for Self-defence 101 training and no under 16’s for CQC, Sharp & Blunt Edged Weapons, Restraints & Weapon Retention.

Is the claim of being able to learn how to take someone down in 2.5 seconds for real?

Yes.

—————

IS THE SELF-DEFENSE 101 TRAINING SUITABLE FOR SMALL-FRAMED PEOPLE?

Yes. Physical size and strength are not hindering factors.

—————

WILL I GET HURT DURING THE TRAINING?

You need to experience a mild level of this pain so you can visualize how effective techniques you learn will be when exerting full force. The pain you experience during the course is nothing to be afraid of, it is essential for demonstrating the efficacy of the techniques and you will get over it in seconds!

—————

HOW MUCH CAN I POSSIBLY LEARN IN UNDER 4 HOURS?

A lot. We’ve stripped out the fluff and focused on really valuable essentials. Some say it can feel like information overload that’s why we recommend taking notes! We also recommend practicing at home afterward to help entrench the knowledge.

—————

Do I only need to take one course to be competent at protecting myself?

Parts of our courses enable you to defend yourself immediately. However, being realists, one introductory course is not enough to be considered the A to Z of self-defense. Potential threats and attacks are too varied to be suitably catered to in a single course. Ongoing practice and different levels of self-defense training will provide you with more in-depth, contextual knowledge and confidence.

What’s the difference between Karate, Kung Fu , Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, and what opps teaches?

Traditional Martial Arts have a deep history, great discipline, form, and a grading system. The competitions are managed and referees are present.  Many say it is more a way of life than mere technique. OPPS designed its courses for real-life threats after being exposed to and living through these on the street.

What’s the difference between Boxing, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and the OPPS System?

They do still incorporate their own traditional competitions and grading and follow a curriculum.  In our professional opinion, they are great contact and defense sports and more realistic to utilise on the street, however, they have their limitation as well due to varied attacks and restraints they would come across but are not catered to in these disciplines.
